What is MFT?

Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT) are mental health professionals who are trained to work with couples, families and individuals from a systemic/relational perspective. MFTs view a relationship as a system, and when a couple or family is having problems, we look at it as an issue with the system and the way the people within the system relate, not as a problem with an individual in that system.

How long does it take to complete the Master’s program?

The MMFT Program is primarily a part time program designed for professionals already working in the field. Classes are typically in the evenings, and students complete the program in 6 years. A few full time spots are available, and the full time track takes 3 years.

How many credit hours are required?

A total of 63 Credit hours are required which include 24 credit hours of practicum.

Can I attend the program and work full-time?

Yes. Many of our students work full time and take classes in the evening. Part-time students often take 2 classes per term for the first 1-2 years, and then 1 class plus a practicum in the last 3-4 years.

Is there a full-time study option?

Yes but limited (2-3 students). Full time students are required to complete all degree requirements (63 credits) in 3 years. They start practicum in their 2nd year. The experiential nature of many courses in addition to clinical work often makes the full-time study experience quite intense.
