Programming and Events

Indigenous Student Services Centre (ISSC)

The ISSC hosts a number of social and cultural events for registered Indigenous students and their immediate families.

Cultural Events:

  • The last Friday of every month through the Elders-in-Residence, the ISSC hosts a Lodge Ceremony open to all students, staff and faculty.
  • The Elders-in-Residence provide various teachings and cultural workshops within the centre, including various teachings and workshops. 
  • Monthly potlucks are held the first Wednesday of every month from 12:30 p.m.  - 1:30 p.m. in the Indigenous Student Lounge RM 2L02 and is open to all members of the University of Winnipeg.
  • Spring Graduation Powwow hosted by the ISC and ISSC held in March of each year.

Social Events:

Transitioning into a post-secondary urban environment may be challenging not only for the student but for their immediate family members as well. The ISSC and ISC provide various social activities throughout the academic year including:

  • Family Nights - Halloween and Christmas Party
  • Bowling Night(s)
  • Pool Night

Movie Night(s) - All students are welcome to attend movie night within the centre, pizza or hot dogs, snacks and drinks are provided by ISC.


Wii Chiiwaakanak Learning Centre

The Wii Chiiwaakanak Learning Centre offers quality after school education programs, learning, and cultural programs. The programs are free of charge and open to all families and individuals regardless of age, knowledge, or ability.

Aboriginal People's Television Network

The feels strongly about serving their communities and the area of Community Relations is key to achieving this mandate. The APTN Community Connections website is not just about connecting to communities it’s about connecting them to each other as well. Community Connections aims to foster, enhance and build relationships with First Nation, Inuit and Métis community members, organizations and agencies locally, regionally and nationally.

MICEC is a provincial, non-profit, charitable and educational organization that works to promote awareness and understanding of Indigenous cultures for all Manitobans.
